Dear Friends,
I hope everyone is doing well as we close out another tough year. This week I share how to zip up your Google account and take it with you if you are leaving. For those staying at GSIS I have a quick survey I hope you will take so we can make next year’s Ed Tech PD more useful and meaningful. Not much else other than a few articles from EdWeek that talk about what technical PD should look like next year. Good to read before you take the survey even if you just scan the charts summarizing trends and feelings in the Ed Tech space.

Those leaving might want to use Google Takeout:
https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout
and or Transfer:
https://takeout.google.com/transfer
The app takes you through the process step by step, but I am happy to help if you need it. If you are moving to another school that uses Google Workspace for Education you will want to use Google Transfer and will need some info from your new school’s IT Department.
Those EdWeek articles I mentioned are from a whole series entitled:
What’s Wrong With Teacher PD For Technology—and How To Make It Better
Not sure if this is behind a paywall or not as I have a subscription. If so and you really wanna read them, there are ways. Here are a couple that I found helpful:
Kate LaBarbera teaches 2nd grade at the K-5 Carlton Avenue School in San Jose, Calif. She shares her experiences learning new skills with EdWeek
Lessons Learned from Teachers about How to Develop New Tech Skills
How to Fix 7 Fatal Flaws in Tech Professional Development
According to the survey in this article teachers in the US identified the Top 3 Most important areas of professional development over the next 12 - 18 months as:
Building student engagement and motivation
Cultivating students’ social-emotional learning/well-being
Building comfort/effectiveness with instructional technology
Future of Blended Learning: A Research-Driven Guide for Educators
from The Every Learner Everywhere project. Long at 43 pages, but good summaries in the form of excerpts and charts.
This Week’s Apps and Resources
Check out this district's awesome EdTech Google Site about Google Stuff and more.

Some of the files require access that we do not have but there is still tons of useful stuff and it is a beautiful example of what can be done with Google Sites.
If you are up from 11PM to 2AM anyway and want a real professional GCE Bootcamp Experience (online) you can sign up for:
The Global GEG Bootcamps
There are two dates for each level later this summer.

Don’t forget that the Weekly Tech Tips are now all online for you to reference if you ever want to go back and look up something that caught your eye but can’t remember.

The Google Certified Educator Level 1 course on Google Classroom is still there and will remain there for as long as it is relevant: Login to Google Classroom and input class code: 76trm2u or go here:
https://classroom.google.com/c/MTQ5Mjg3ODQ1MjZa?cjc=76trm2u
I will be making a new course this summer to reflect the changes that Google has made to the apps and to the suite as a whole now that it is Google Workspace for Education. I will also have many more live f2f sessions next year. CoVid and busy schedules made it hard this year, but I will be sure to plan well ahead for the 2122 SY.
Let’s keep the discussions going over the summer at GSIS 2020 Google Group.
AND PLEASE TAKE MY SURVEY ABOUT NEXT YEAR!!!
Have a great week!
